Part 24 – A New Opportunity

So with a full on mope happening I got the boys ready and we left for the Polynesian. We had decided that even if Lisa was miserable, the boys should still get to enjoy their evening. We caught the bus to the TTC (that’s Transportation and Ticket Center). The Poly(nesian) is just a short hike down a trail from there. We walked and talked and looked at scenery along the way. And then we arrived at the Neverland Club. You may have seen the drop off centers in malls or even day cares have them. This is a kid’s paradise and parent’s dream. You walk in, sign your kids in, get a pager, and leave without them. They stay there. We like these. This one is a drop off center but tricked out. And our boys love Peter Pan, so this one really lights their world. You enter a reception area with a desk and attendant. The reception area is themed as the nursery. There is a door and a window. But the window is not an outside window. It is an open window into another room. A...

Part 23 – What Might Have Been

So we watch Lisa wander out of the room for some unknown location with some unknown person. And I eat my sandwich. And mope. I hate missing out on O’hana. And the possibility of the Adventurer’s Club. I like the Adventurer’s Club. Mostly because it fits my sense of humor. And when we went before, I was the source of much joking and ridicule. It was great. Flash back time. Lisa, her brother, and I were out on a grownup night out. #1S was in the one of the kid’s clubs. And we went to O’hana for dinner. Then we went over to Pleasure Island. For those who may not know, Pleasure Island is the grownups Magic Kingdom. It is the club district of Walt Disney World. When we went there 15 or so clubs that you could find more grownup entertainment. Dancing, music, and comedy were the focus. Oh and booze. But I don’t do that. Seriously. I had read about the Adventurer’s Club online. It was really interesting sounding. So I convinced the rest of my party to give it a w...

Part 22 – The Problem with AssumingPart 22 – The Problem with Assuming

We left the Magic Kingdom and were heading back to the Lodge. We decided that Lisa should check into going to Urgent Care and have her throat looked at. This was potentially a problem. This night was the grown up’s night out. We were planning on sending the boys to the Neverland Club. This is a supervised children program. You can drop your yung’uns off and the great Disney folks will take care of them. For hours at a time. And they feed them, entertain them, keep them safe, and return them to you. And our boys had been looking forward to this one thing more than any other activity. When we got back to the Lodge, we went by Roaring Forks for lupper. That’s the meal between lunch and supper. The boys had something. I don’t have a clue. I had a really interesting sandwich. It was roast beef and blue cheese. I love blue cheese. It stinks and looks like it’s ruined. So if it looks like it’s rotten and smells like it’s rotten, it probably is rotten. But it’s yummy. Espe...

Part 21 – The end of the magical day

Since #2S would not eat anything Pecos Bill offered, we decided to head around to the Main Street area. I was secretly hoping we would NOT end up eating hot dogs again. I love me a dog . Especially with chili and cheese with some mustard. But I was not in the mood for another one that day. Not when there were so many other tasty options. We rounded the corner toward Adventure land when Lovey says that according to the handy times guide, Peter and Wendy are soon to appear. #2S, if you haven’t guessed, loves Peter Pan. So we knew that was a must do. I made the executive decision that we should do the Jungle Cruise. It’s hokey and cornball. But it’s really fun. And the boys were really digging it. It wasn’t memorable. But it was a fun romp down the grand rivers of the world. Then we backtracked to the Peter Pan/Wendy meet. There is a look that people get when they meet someone whom they idolize. It is a look unlike anything else. And it is a look that cannot...

Part 20 – The Kingdom of Magic

Epcot was a tiring day. We spent all day without the break back at the resort. But the boys did great. The stroller helped for #2S. But everyone was tired that next morning. Thus we skipped EMH (that’s Extra Magic Hours) at Magic Kingdom that next morning. Everyone slept in a little. Even me. I didn’t get up until 7:00. I had been getting up at 6:30. That was so I could get up, get ready, get coffee. In that order. Although up may be relative when speaking about pre-coffee. Or pre-Nescafe. When I got back to the room with my coffee-like substance, Lisa was up and around. And not happy. She had a sore throat. She was complaining the day before about a scratchiness. But she had been popping acetaminophen and cough drops. No problem. But today it was a little more persistent. But we all ready to go and headed out to the Magic Kingdom. We left about 8:30. Hopped the Contemporary launch and grabbed the monorail. Without all the details involved – it took us 45...

Part 19 – Around the world in a day

I believe I said somewhere many, many pages ago, that I love the World Showcase. I could spend two or three days here. And we started with Mexico. I think it is just cool. I said that somewhere, too. But it is an awesome pavilion. We wandered in and took a picture by the fountain. We walked by the mariachi band. And headed straight for our destination: el Rio del Tiempo. I hadn’t been on it since 1984. Not much has changed. And the boat got stuck again. I asked #1S if he broke the boat. After we got out of the boat, we exited Mexico. NO I didn’t eat any Mexican food. Because I knew we would get around to American Adventure. I didn’t want to miss it again. Because of the same reason as the first time. Next we entered the virtual homeland of the Maelstrommers: Norway. For you blogsters, Lisa and I connected with a group of people on the internet who share in the passion we have for DisneyWorld. We have shared jokes and laughter. We have talked on the phone....

Part 18 – Who knew waiting was Disney attraction?

After sipping a free Coke or three, we headed over to the other Innoventions. #1S did Kidcot. #2S played among the trees. And we went around to play on the kid computers. And we killed time. Lisa was due out between 11:30-Noon. Well it was getting mighty close to that time. So we went out to the most likely place to meet. And we sat out there for about 15 minutes when tragedy struck. Pal Mickey was nowhere to be seen. He didn’t make it out of Innoventions. Because #1S had taken his Pal from around his neck to color. And that was where Pal Mickey stayed when we left. Luckily, Pal Mickey was having a little nap in the same place when we went back. And I stapled Pal Mickey to #1S’s neck. Not really. I didn’t bring the staple gun. They wouldn’t let me get it past the security gate. But I did tell him to leave Pal Mickey around his neck. And we went back out to meet Lisa. And waited. And Waited. And saw this lizard running around. I was getting a little cranky at this ...

Part 17 – Oh Happy Day!

This was the day that 3 of the Bergman family was looking forward to. This was Epcot day! Lisa was excited about the day because she was partially fulfilling a dream: getting up close with a dolphin. #1S was excited because he was getting a new toy: Pal Mickey. I was excited because I was getting to go to Epcot: my favorite of all Disney parks. #2S was just there. And would get worse as the day went on. Dumm-dumm-duh-dummmmm (in a deep, foreboding way). Well we were all up and at ‘em relatively early. Just because we needed to get away. But only to the Mercantile. See, we are fairly clear on money issues with our boys. We work their little behinds off. But we pay them. And the months leading up to Disney, they had worked hard. Plus they got a little bonus before we left. We also set some rules. Rule #1 – no junk (even if it Disney). This meant no plastic spinny-whrily-lighty-uppy thingy’s. Rule #2 – no buying anything until the third day. If they saw some...

Part 16 – Where’d that water come from?

We walked out of Indy, disillusioned on my part, but hungry. The buffet had worn off. It was time for munchies crunchies. We had an ADR at Mama Melrose’s for about 2 hours from this point. That wouldn’t work. But Sci-Fi was right around the corner (so to speak). We headed around to the Sci-Fi and walked up. I asked, “Would it be possible to get a lunch?” “Sure,” says the hostess, “I will be a few minutes.” So I’m thinking 10-15 minutes. There was line of folks there. They were seated all around the entryway. So we stood there for couple of minutes (literally 2-3 minutes) and we got called. Before all of those other folks sitting there. I think the big difference between us and them, we were car-booth snobs. We just wanted some lunch and any sit down space was good. So we got a chair before lots of other people. Sorry. But I have to do a victory dance now. It was short lived, though. #2S went into fit mode. My food was mediocre (ribs again – what can I say, I’m a carnivore). Desert wa...

Part 15 - Go, go Bergbert family

Well it is Tuesday of our vacation, so that means that it is Disney Studios Day. We all get up and around early enough to get to the Studios at rope drop. There was a great family from Great Britain (by their accent) standing with us. They were getting ready to head over to Indy. At rope drop. I don’t normally intrude upon folks’ conversations, but I really felt I should help them out. And when the rope dropped, they stuck with us. Like I knew what I was doing. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that our plans for two days in a row had been trashed. But they stuck with us. We got to the street over in front of the ABC Theater and heard the revving of car engine and loud music. It was then that Lightening McQueen came right down the boulevard right in front of us. Very cool. But we didn’t stop for pictures. We had a tour through the stars waiting for us. We got over to Star Tours and there was no one waiting. So we raced through the line. Weird thing, th...
